6 Weeks Pregnant: 3 Things to Expect

Are you starting to feel a little different, mama? Many early signs of pregnancy might begin appearing this week. Read on to learn three things to expect during this sixth week of pregnancy.

  1. Hello, Morning Sickness!
  2. a pregnant woman looking sick

About half of expecting women experience morning sickness, which can occur at any time (or all times) of the day. While the symptoms of morning sickness—exhaustion, moodiness, nausea, and vomiting—are unpleasant, doctors have determined that it's actually a good thing, as it means your body is producing pregnancy hormones and is hard at work creating your baby. So hang in there! Morning sickness usually wanes at the end of the first trimester.

  3. A Pumping Heart!
  4. an illustration of a 6 week embryo

Your little one's heart is now pumping blood and the neural tube that will become the spine closes up this week. The brain is continuing to develop as are the lungs, jaw, and nose. Little buds for the hands and feet have webby structures that will soon become fingers and toes!

  5. The Breasts Know
  6. a woman holding her breasts

As you start to feel pregnant, you could notice some soreness or tenderness in your breasts, and also observe that your areolas are growing darker. Your blood pressure is also lower now than pre-pregnancy, which can cause dizziness or light-headedness. Take your time getting out of bed and up from your desk chair!
