27 Weeks Pregnant: 3 Things to Expect

Take a moment to relax and enjoy—it's your first week of the third trimester! Your baby will start this week weighing about two pounds, but rapid weight gain is the name of the game. Keep your feet elevated as much as you can now. The bigger baby gets, the harder it is on your system. It's all worth it, though!

  1. Welcome to the Third Trimester!
  2. a birthday cake with a lighted candle with the number 3

Even though you probably feel like you've been pregnant forever already, you're only 2/3 of the way through. But then again, you're 2/3 of the way through!! The third trimester brings on a huge spurt in growth and fat accumulation for baby (and yeah, for you, too. Sorry). Your belly is going to start getting into the stage that people will no longer wonder, "Is she?" and will be consistently asking, "When are you due?"

  3. Baby Weighs Two Pounds
  4. a pregnant woman holding her belly

Only four short weeks ago your baby finally made it to the one pound mark. It took almost six months for your baby to gain that first pound, and now she has doubled her weight in just one. If you could peek inside, you would see that her skin is still almost see-through; but as her fat stores continue to increase those extra layers will make her start to look more like a regular newborn.

  5. Can You Hear Me Now?
  6. a dad putting his head against his wife's pregnant belly

Now that your baby has reached such a big size, you should ask your partner to put his ear to your belly. There's a fair chance that if you're in a quiet room he'll be able to hear baby's heartbeat. If there's a little bit more of you to love you may have to wait a few weeks, but it's never a bad idea to let daddy-to-be get some belly snuggles.
