Whether you're raising your first child or your fifth grandchild, every baby makes you feel like a new parent. You'll need to make tons of decisions - finding a new babysitter, choosing a daycare and determining how to handle tantrums are just a few of them. Yet all of the parenting advice in the world can't prepare you for the reality of raising children.
Still, that doesn't mean you should go in unprepared. No matter how many kids you've had in your life, it helps to read a few refreshers and get up-to-date parenting advice. After all, you can never know too much about how to travel with children, start your own family traditions or tell your parents you're adopting a more modern parenting style.
You'll also find yourself going back on some parenting assertions you may have made in your youth. That's perfectly OK - nobody can chart their parenting path in advance. Parts of your new approach may even stem from parenting advice from less traditional or non-nuclear families - single mothers, lesbian parents and other family types who can offer a different, more inclusive perspective than the standard 1950's archetype.
Of course, sometimes you just want help making the most of the little things, such as making your baby laugh or throwing an amazing Father's Day. Tips for staying organized and keeping calm during stressful moments certainly help, too.
Raising children is a beautiful journey that can only be discovered once you're in the middle of it, and it changes with each child that becomes a part of your life.
