Names ending in 'den'

A hugely popular trend for boys' names in recent years was very apparent in the top boys' names of 2013: More and more parents are using names that end with "den." Jayden took the No. 9 spot in 2013, with Aiden following closely at No. 12. Further down on the list are names like Brayden, Ayden (a less common spelling of the name Aiden), Kayden and Camden. Although it's not clear exactly where this trend began, it's relatively recent - "den" names were far down on the list of popular names in the decade between 2000 and 2009, with Jayden showing up first at No. 50.

Tons of celebrities are embracing this trend. Kristin Cavallari and husband Jay Cutler named their baby boy Camden in 2012, as did Nick Lachey and Vanessa Williams. Britney Spears has a son named Jayden, who was born in 2006.

Classic names

Also popular in 2013 were timeless names. These include William (No. 5), Michael (No. 7), James (No. 13), Joseph (No. 15) and many more. These are perfect options for those expecting parents who are looking for classic multi-generational names.

Biblical names

Biblical names hold special significance for many soon-to-be moms and dads, which is one reason they're so popular. Noah, Jacob, Alexander, Matthew, Joseph, Gabriel and John are just a few of the top-ranking names in 2013 that appear in the Bible. If your faith is important to you, you may find inspiration in names like these, which are both meaningful and enduring.

Gender-neutral names

Another recent baby name trend many parents are embracing is choosing gender-neutral names. These options are suitable for both boys and girls, and many moms and dads believe they give children the opportunity to explore their identity more freely. On the list of top baby boy names in 2013, several gender-neutral names were popular, including Ryan, Cameron, Adrian and Blake. If you're hoping to choose a gender-neutral name - or explore name options before finding out the sex of your baby - any of these can provide inspiration.

Baby name trends come and go, so the most important thing is that you choose one you and your family loves!
