Hey Beyonce! I'm Not Mad Atcha!

The Internet has been abuzz over Beyonce's recent stint in the maternity ward. There's the father who said he was restricted from seeing his premature twins in the NICU, there were the extreme security measures, like cameras being taped over and bodyguards everywhere, and there was even a report of a makeup artist being summoned to Beyonce's executive birth suite.

Does this surprise anyone? I mean, really?

Nothing about Beyonce and Jay-Z's life is normal and I'm not sure why anyone thought the birth of their first child would be anything but a spectacle.

Also, IF these reports are true, can you really blame them?

I can't even imagine what being a superstar is like. I mean, I may be one in my own mind, and I'm certainly the head diva in charge at my house, but no one is trying to snap a picture of me buying a box of Tampax in my jammies at the drug store. At least, not that I know of.....

There have to be some serious weirdos trying to get a little face time with hip hop royalty. Think of the crazy and creepy fan mail they must get. Also, they can barely walk down the street without photographers and crazed fans chasing them down. It's got to be just a tad nerve-wracking.

Now, go back to when you had your first baby. Think about how fragile and delicate that new life felt. I can remember looking down on my tiny little bundle of joy and being overwhelmed by the fact that I was now in charge of protecting and nurturing this person.

Now, imagine that there are hundreds of people trying to get into your room to find out any and every detail surrounding the birth of your child, and stalking the hospital grounds to get the first glimpse of you and your baby as you exit the hospital doors. It's enough to bring out the mama bear in anyone and I have a feeling that Beyonce is one fierce mama bear.

If I had a gazillion dollars, I'd probably shell out a cool mil to reserve an entire wing of the hospital too!

Finally, WHO CARES if she had a makeup artist in her room???? I'll be the first to admit that I put on a fresh coat of lip gloss before my mama debut, and if I had the option of getting touched up by a pro you know I would have jumped at the chance. The first picture of a mother holding her new baby is timeless. Every friend and family member wants to see that first moment. Now, imagine that the ENTIRE WORLD is going to have access to that picture. It's a lot of pressure.

I also just want to say that if the reports of parents being blocked from seeing their babies in the NICU are true, then that's the hospital's fault, not Beyonce's. If she really made such unreasonable demands, then whoever complied with them should be fired because that is just inexcusable.

So Beyonce, if you're listening, I'm not mad at you. You were just doing what's best for you and your family. Because, celebrity or not, isn't that what we are all trying to do?
