Preparing for Your Baby’s Newborn Portrait
The Our365 Editors
One of the most important experiences awaiting you after birth of your child is the first official Newborn Portrait - a tender, artful record of your baby’s beginning. Here's how to make the most of your Newborn Portrait session:
Making a picture you'll cherish
• Newborns are beautiful in just a diaper or hospital T-shirt, or softly swaddled in a blanket.
• You might chose to bring something special to lay your baby down on (don’t forget to wash it ahead of time!)
• Or you can let your photographer use white bedding to make a beautiful, photogenic "nest" for your baby.
What’s your baby style?
• Some parents like to dress up the baby in a newborn outfit - or just a pretty bow.
• Light colors photograph best against a newborn’s delicate skin
• Avoid busy patterns and bright colors, especially red and bright pink!
• Bring a favorite object too if you want. Some popular choices: an heirloom teddy bear, grandma’s crocheted blanket or a toy handed down through the generations.
Baby's proud family
• You might not feel camera-ready, but in a few years, you’ll treasure your Newborn Portrait all the more if you’re also in the picture.
• If dad’s in the room, ask him to pose with the baby.
• Older siblings will feel special as part of the portrait - bring something they love to wear.
Smile, Mama!
• A60-second photo shoot prep will have you glowing as much on the outside as you are on the inside.
• Be sure to pack touch-up items for your mini makeup session.
• Natural-looking products are right for a soft mom-and-baby look.
