Your baby at 2 weeks At 2 weeks, your baby is observing the world more - you’ll find that there are times when he’s awake and soaking in everything that’s going on around him, whereas as a 1-week-old he was awake only when hungry or uncomfortable. People used to think that a newborn was a blank slate, waiting to be “written on” by the world around him. These days, researchers believe that babies are born with a lot of their personality in place; they're "wired" to be easygoing or intense, sensitive or thick-skinned (you'll see these traits as your newborn settles in). But whether he's active or passive, loud or quiet, your baby learns by watching, listening, tasting and touching everything around him. At this stage, his muscle tone should improve and his movements become less jerky. But he'll still probably prefer the fetal position, especially when he’s upset or overwhelmed. After all, he got very used to that position when he was in utero (and yes, that's why most babies like to be swaddled!)Your baby at 3 weeks<< Previous: | Next: >>
