Is Mother's Day Just a "Hallmark Holiday"?

Ladies, dust off your crowns. It’s time to be queen for a day. It’s Mother’s Day. You may also know it as the one day of the year when everyone knows they'd better get you a nice gift to show their thanks for all you do the other 364 days. That’s the reason a lot of people refer to the second Sunday in May as a “Hallmark Holiday.”
But does Mother's Day have to be all about the spending of cold hard cash? The flowers, the jewelry, and don't forget those spa days - each of them “the perfect gift”? Don’t get me wrong. I love a little bling bling, a good massage and a pedi as much as the next momma. But I think Mother’s Day can and should be a lot more. I know a lot of us, myself included, would value some kind words and heartfelt appreciation for all the poop and snot we clean up 24/7 over some gifts the kids were told they better give us. Heck, give me a nap instead of some flowers and I’ll love you forever!
We’ve all heard the saying “actions speak louder than words.” When it comes to Mother’s Day, actions and words speak louder than gifts. Ritzy gifts shouldn’t make or break Mother’s Day, or the bank for that matter. It’s just one day out of the entire year.
It could be Mother’s Day everyday if we are shown respect and admiration for all we do as the hard working mommas that we are. That’s just my spin on it.
