Summer of Strong Monday Workout: Core
Posted by Mom365 Special
Hello and welcome to Week 2 of the Summer of Strong! If you missed last week’s LEG workout, be sure to go back and read it (then DO the workout!). My plan is to develop workouts that target every single angle of the body, so that by the end of the summer, we can see a great amount of progress, both physically and mentally!
A quick overview of what the Mom365 Summer of Strong is all about.
SOS is NOT about:
Comparisons.
Self-hate or poor body image talk.
Restrictions or extremes.

SOS IS about:
Improving our fitness levels.
Learning how to create workouts.
Daily movement.
Empowerment through accomplishment.
You see, being fit isn’t about getting skinny! It’s about being STRONG! Let me repeat that. STOP TRYING TO BE SKINNY!
Whether you know it or not, there is a war being waged against the “skinny campaigns.” Against the magazines that show airbrushed images and unattainable bodies. Against the modeling companies that hire anorexic women. Against a standard that is unhealthy.

And as moms, I believe that it is OUR responsibility to expose our children to health and fitness, NOT fad diets and obsession over the scale. If we change our mentality from BEING SKINNY to BEING STRONG, a shift in thinking occurs, not only in ourselves but in our children. The way we approach our health, the workouts we do, the foods we eat, and the way we respect our bodies – these things have a HUGE impact on our little ones. Our children want so badly to mimic us. We need to set an example worth repeating!
For this week’s workout, I want to focus on the CORE!

Building a strong core is VITAL to overall health and wellness! Yes, it’s nice to have a sleek and flat belly, but more so than that, a strong core just makes life easier. You’ll be able to bend over to pick up the baby with ease. Even walking and running become easier when our midline is strong and trained.
When the female body hosts a child, our abdominal muscles stretch and separate to allow for fetal growth. This is natural and totally worth the blessing you get from having a child. But when it’s all said and done, us mommas are left with weird looking bellies, stretch marks, that dark squigly line (linea negra) and abdominal fat. Not cool!
The best way to lose the visceral (abdominal) fat is INTERVAL TRAINING and CLEAN EATING, which we will talk about later. For today, try this core circuit that will strengthen the muscles UNDER any abdominal fat you might have!
Six packs for everyone! Let’s get to work!
What You’ll Need:
A 5-10 pound dumbbell (or any small object)
Stopwatch
How Often:
Three times per week, non-consecutive days. <-our abdominal muscles are just like any other muscle and need REST in order to grow!

Here's a video tutorial for Walking Plank

You can add this core circuit on to the end of a workout or complete it as a stand alone on an active rest day! If you have ANY questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. For more fitness (and family) inspiration, please visit my healthy living blog, Lindsay’s List.
Some food for thought: We’re raising the next generation – will it be a generation of strong men and women? As we continue with SOS, I want YOUR thoughts on what it means to be strong. And how our thoughts and actions on the matter can impact our children.
So tell me - WHAT ARE SOME WAYS WE CAN SHOW “STRONG” TO OUR CHILDREN WHEN IT COMES TO FITNESS?
