Top 10 Mom Things I Thought I'd Never Say
Posted by Morgan Benzian
Well, it's happened: I've started speaking like my mother.
My kids are getting older, which means they can understand more, which also means things like discipline are getting a lot more complex.
I always thought I'd be a "cool mom" (I still think I am, BTW) and that there were certain phrases that would never escape my lips. I mean, who wants to sound like a naggy mom? Apparently, I do, because I keep catching myself saying things that make me sound like I'm the little old lady next door with curlers in her hair and an old bathrobe who shakes her fingers at the neighborhood kids from behind her rotting fence. You know what I'm talking about.
I guess it was inevitable. I might have lost some of my cool but I'm not too worried about it. There's a reason these phrases have been passed down from generation to generation - they work. I think.
Here are the top 10 mom things I'd never thought I'd say:
1. Because I said so.
2. Your face is going to freeze like that.
3. No running in the house.
4. Stop that right now.
5. Just wait until your father gets home.
6. Use your inside voice.
7. Don't make me come in there!
8. Look at me in the eye when I'm speaking to you.
9. I'm not made of money.
10. Don't talk to me like that.
What do you say to your kids that you thought you'd never do?
