Learning How to Mom-ocialize
Posted by Kristi Gilbert
I'm not great at the Mommy & Me gatherings. In fact, I downright suck at them. Lately though, I've been thinking I should be giving my mom socialization skills another chance. After all, I write a family/parenting blog and I'm writing to you all on this site. I should be able to function in a real life, one-on-one basis.
"Hi. I'm Kristi. The child who just stole your child's toy is my son and the baby who fell from the top of the slide is my daughter. Do you guys come here to play often?"
Ok, maybe it'll take some time or finesse....
"Hi. Totally not Mom of the Year here, HAHAHAHAbwahaHAHAHA! So, tell me...CP! LET GO OF THAT CHILD'S SHOE!! HONEY, LET THEM CLIMB UP THE SLIDE TOO, PLEASE... Does your family visit this park...CP!! I SAID LET GO OF THAT BOY'S SHOE BEFORE I MAKE YOU EAT IT!!.... ::giant smile:: Gorgeous day, isn't it?"
Yeah, my mom skills aren't for everyone. I don't really make my kids eat shoes nor would I ever. Still, I have my moments. It's funny how these are the moms I meet, you know, who can see through the comment to realize that I'm...hmmmm.... joking.
"No, I didn't breast feed. Yes, my kids eat peanut butter...FROM A JAR. Milk products? Yes, milk, chocolate milk, yogurt, cheese... No, I drink soy but my kids don't. Hormones? Oh boy, my kids have them...oh, in the MILK? Well, yes. That's a problem but not one of my priorities. Organic? Sometimes. Wait, that's bad. Raw foods. Like feed them a live chicken?? HAHAHAHAbwahaHAHAHA Oh, you weren't being funny. Look, I got to go. My child is running away with your son's shoes again...."
Yeah, maybe I'm still not cut out for mom-ocialization yet.
Anyone else feel that they don't connect with other moms on the playground or am I the only one?
