Birth Story: Born in the Car!

Story: I had been on bed rest for four weeks; the morning I went into labor I still had three weeks of my pregnancy to go. I woke up at 5:28 a.m. with horrible, painful contractions that were already about four minutes apart. We rushed to get our stuff together and were out the door in about five minutes.

I could feel the contractions getting stronger and closer. Within minutes of being on the road, they were already two minutes apart and getting painfully worse. About a block down the road from the hospital I gave birth IN MY CAR in the passenger seat while my boyfriend was still driving! I had to keep my son from falling onto the floor board and I wrapped him in a hoody I had been wearing. My son came at 6 a.m. on the dot, after 32 MINUTES OF LABOR TOTAL! And no pain meds! Never in my life did I think I would go through something like that.

We pulled up at the hospital and my boyfriend ran inside telling them I gave birth in the car. The nurses just paused in shock and then ran out after they realized what he said. They still seemed surprised I was actually holding the baby in the car!

 Wisdom for Moms-to-be: Always expect the unexpected. And sleep when your baby sleeps!
