What I Really Freak Out About

Cut-up hot dogs? Nope. Finger in the outlet? Not really. Climbing the couch like her brother? Sometimes. What really scares me: Not understanding Stranger Danger....

Yes, I want my daughter to be friendly and sociable. Sweet smiles to other people as I shop or browse in a store.

But when my daughter sees another person, she starts to climb out of her seat (another fear), slips free of her buckle, stands in her chair and screams "Hi!"

It was adorable at first, but now its everyone she sees; men, women, kids, grandparents, other babies.  It gets really uncomfortable when she yells out to people who have dogs. Now i'm dealing with a stranger and their puppy who could maul her face. Because as a mom, you fear the worst before you are proved wrong. Not offense to dog owners out there but I see stories on the news every day. Things happen.

Please don't think I'm naive or overly protective, though I may be a bit of both. I've watched my very socialable son walk away from me after a speech about him being so awesome that somebody might want him for themselves, and start a full conversation about his Hot Wheels track and "you should come over and see it!"  My baby girl watches every move her big brother makes. Then there's the added bonus that they are both gorgeous.

Am I really so far off in my freak-out? Do you think I'm a little nuts? Do you have similiar fears for your children?
