Breast Milk Kills HIV, New Study Shows

Like we need another reason to say breast milk is beneficial. In a new study breast milk containing the HIV virus was injected into mice. Not only did the mice not get the virus, the milk actually killed the virus!

This study was conducted at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. The results of these experiments highlight "the potent HIV inhibitory activity of normal human breast milk and demonstrate that the in vitro HIV inhibitory activity of human breast milk is also capable of efficiently preventing oral transmission of cell-free HIV," the study said.

Such amazing news since so many mothers around the world fear transmitting the virus to their babies through breastfeeding. Experiments are still going on, but scientists are hoping to show that it is safe for an HIV-positive woman to breastfeed her baby.

This could open doors for testing breast milk's potential to kill other viruses, and then maybe one day moms will be able to breathe easier knowing that their children are safe from harm.

Next step, eradication.
